In the South, food is a part of celebration of events and is central to all our gatherings. Good cooks will want all these recipes in their repertoire to use for years of family gatherings, quiet suppers, carefree cook-outs, holiday dinners, for times of gaiety, anniversaries, neighborhood visits and formal occasions. Each recipe has survived many testings. Quotations from Southern literary figures throughout our book share insights into the significance of the preparation of food and its gracious serving within the customs of the South. For food is basic to survival, but its symbolism touches also upon survival of thought, soul and spirit.
Comments introducing the recipes are an intimate sharing of our experiences with food, variations you may wish to try, combinations, accompaniments, and menus you may enjoy. Come join our celebration of foods and flavors! We hope they will become Perennials for you also.

Memorial to Dottie Rambo
Memorial to Dottie Rambo
On Sunday morning, May 11, 2008 at approximately 2:19 a.m., Dottie Rambo, Grammy Award-winning Gospel singer and composer, was tragically killed in an automobile accident.  The chartered bus Dottie Rambo was traveling in was traveling on I-44 near Mount Vernon, Missouri when the accident occurred.  The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Dottie was traveling to meet Lulu Roman and Naomi Sego at a Golden Girls of Gospel Concert in North Richland Hills, Tex., scheduled to be hosted by the Fountain of Life church. On board with Dottie were her manager Larry Ferguson, his wife Judy and their two sons, Pierce and Christian, the bus driver Ronnie Meadows, and Larry's assistant Chris Barnes. The survivors have sustained multiple injuries and are receiving medical care. Doctors say all the injured will recover, but, it may be a long process.  So, please remember each of them in your prayers.
