Memorial to Dottie Rambo
On Sunday morning, May 11, 2008 at approximately 2:19 a.m., Dottie Rambo, Grammy Award-winning Gospel singer and composer, was tragically killed in an automobile accident. The chartered bus Dottie Rambo was traveling in was traveling on I-44 near Mount Vernon, Missouri when the accident occurred. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Dottie was traveling to meet Lulu Roman and Naomi Sego at a Golden Girls of Gospel Concert in North Richland Hills, Tex., scheduled to be hosted by the Fountain of Life church. On board with Dottie were her manager Larry Ferguson, his wife Judy and their two sons, Pierce and Christian, the bus driver Ronnie Meadows, and Larry's assistant Chris Barnes. The survivors have sustained multiple injuries and are receiving medical care. Doctors say all the injured will recover, but, it may be a long process. So, please remember each of them in your prayers.
Dottie began writing songs at the age of eight, while sitting on a creek bank near her Morganfield, Kentucky, home. Her talent soon received widespread recognition, resulting in many invitations to sing in churches and at various public functions. The demand became so heavy that she left home at the age of twelve to embark upon a full-time career of singing and composing music.
Dottie Rambo was one of the most respected and beloved songwriters in the world, not only in the gospel music industry but also in secular music. Dottie gained international acclaim as the undisputed queen of gospel music, having written over 2500 songs, many of which have been recorded by singers such as Dolly Parton, Elvis Presley, Whitney Houston, Barbara Mandrell, Dottie West, Crystal Gayle, Larry Gatlin, Johnny Cash, Sandy Patti, Jerry Lee Lewis, Tom T. Hall, Vince Gill, Larnelle Harris, Bill Monroe, George Beverly Sheas, Vestal Goodman, Bill Gaither, Connie Smith, Aaron Jeffrey, Andrae Crouch, Vicki Winans, Ray Boltz, Steve Greene, Porter Wagoner and scores of others. Her music crossed all genres of music from Southern Gospel through contemporary.
Above all, Dottie loved her Lord Jesus and is now home with Him and countless friends in Heaven. Dottie, you will be loved and missed by us all!
